I agree the break in period is long, nice to think the motor is that tight, makes u think itll last a long time.Im a big fan of synthetic oil and after you broke your motor in and swiched to synthetic i think your motor well burn a bit cleaner,if not i would consider figuring out how to lean the motor out just a little at a time.

hello
I dont agree with free revving motors to the redline. with no load and 2 cylinders that are 180* apart it means that every 180* the pistons stop for several degrees of crankshaft rotation but with no load to help stabilize the crank the flywheel inertia has a tendancy to put a helluva snatch on everything once the few degrees of rotation are done. two strokes with roller bearings tend to hammer the crank and leave washboard type ripples when this happens. plain sleeve bearings are not as prone. that being said most diesels are tested at wot with no load. I watch them all the time at the cat shop and western branch diesel. its scary to see a big six cyl cummins with no load about 3 grand.
but on the soot issue its an idle port. and exhaust has a certain amount of soot. if you dont believe me stick a finger up your car tail pipe. on a car the exhaust gas is usually futher away from any painted surface so it falls instead of settling on the paint.
good luck and this is a long cool thread :)
