Lubrication / smoke /oil in gasoline going through conventional 2 strokes is much mis-understood.
i love the smell of burning 2 stroke at the boat ramp , smoke is good , no smoke bad .

remember back in the day when the big V8 2 smokes used to fire up on a cold still morning , you could hear and smell them from 10 miles away :).

I used to fire up a pair of 235 HP Johnson 2 strokes.----Lots of smoke.-----A am sure people in the marina thought ---" there must be something wrong " with those motors.

North West Ohio here, what's a good synthetic brand oil to try? There's so many options
Can't say for sure as I don't use it, only Pennzoil TCW3 for over 50 years. Most all mfgrs now offer synthetic oils but which is better ??? From those that I know, who have tried synthetic 2 stroke oil, claim hardly any difference, so.....who knows for sure.
Last year bought acysed outfit with an oil injected 40 hp Merc Classic...awesome motor. The oil injected system leaves very little smoke...just a short blast on startup, but that quickly goes away. For a while I watched very closely to be sure there was some smoke until I got used to it. Even trolling I get very little smoke, you almost have to look close to see any. For most of my trolling, I use my little 2.2 hp baby Merc which is a 50 to 1 mix, but it is so small that there is barely any smoke or smell and then the remote electric troller on the front for steering....definetly no smoke there !!

very funny :) but not applicable in my case. The mere smell of oil, carb cleaner, smoke , gas , spray paint or diesel in my winter shop (basement) generates thunder . Even sweet smelling wd-40 is a no no :-(
Might want to trade her in!😆😆😆

At our house, I follow her rules inside the house, but when in my garage or barn, my rules are followed. This way we each have our own space. I have always worked some type of side job so I have my own spending money for toys that I want or need. She used to do the same before health issues set in. When our family was young and kids were home, I worked three jobs for over 20 years, one was main job, one to pay for braces and other necessities as our insurance didn't cover those back then, and one job for my own money.
Even working three jobs, I still made it to all the family/ kids activities. My wife says I am a long time member of the " he that has the most toys wins" club.....

Ok I was wondering if switching to full synthetic oil would make less smoke, and cleaner burning, thermostat is operating properly runs where it should be,I'm going to try some different oil 🛢️
I used Amsoil on my 73 and 75 Evinrudes (9.5 & 15) was very happy with it. I ran it a little leaner than the 50:1 (couldn't go to the 75:1 or 100:1 it says you can) kept my plugs cleaner was less smokey, but smoke wasn't my issue.

"too rich" might refer either to the gas to oil ratio in the tank (too much oil), or the air/fuel mix at the carb (too much fuel). Mix in the tank is probably the likely suspect for a smoky engine. Keep the mix ratio at 50:1 gas to oil using good 2-cycle TCW-3 oil and fresh gas.
