Exaust Flapper/Stopper Questions

Hello, I have a 1975 Starctaft with the 120 2.5L Mercruiser and a Alpha 1 Gen 1. I'm trying to find out if the Exaust flappers when the engine is off should just hang in an open state or do they spring closed? Also does anyone know the replacement part number they are riveted in place... Thanks!

They just hang there.
They will close if any backwash comes up the exhaust.
They do not have to close tightly.
