Will the model number or serial number of a motor reveal whether the harness contains the connection for a trim gauge? If not, can someone tell me where to look to make that determination?

A 1984. The parts diagram shows a trim sender on engines which have power trim from the factory. It mounts on the inside top of the port transom bracket and can be seen when the engine is tilted up. It is a round device with a movable lever which can be moved with your finger. Follow the ends of the two wires on the sender.

The factory PT&T used a 5 wire harness separate from the primary engine harness.

The main features of the helm end of the PT&T wiring harness are shown in the thumbnail.

Re: Evinrude 90hp Tilt/Trim

I looked at the motor this weekend (Evinrude 90 HP, model E90MLCRD) and did not see a switch for the sensor/sending unit on or around the pivot shaft of the motor. Is the position sensor for this motor visible when the motor is in the full tilt position?

Yes, but it is on the inside of the port transom bracket.

If you find you do not have a trim sender, you can get one from any Bombardier dealer. You will have to adjust it during the installation so that it reads correctly.
