Evinrude 70 hp carb question

Noticed on my 86 evinrude 70 hp that the airbox and corresponding cork gasket closes off the small jet at the top of the carb when bolted to the carbs. Seemed strange to me. I'm assuming it's normal. Just thought it seemed strange. Anyone know how this works being closed off.

did you put the gasket on upside down and backwards? should have a hole in the gasket and in the air silencer base for idle air relief

See post #2 and #3 ----I do not believe there is an issue.----Unless of course the carburetors are NOT original to an 86 model.

So I guess the air pulls from the slot opening at the top of the throat opening. The cork gasket and airbox does cover the air jet completely leaving the notch below the air jet to provide air. Hope that made sense
