Hi i have a 1995 evinrude 60hp, model BE60TLEOC.
My question is this.
I do not hear the beep when i turn the key on that so many people seem to have on their control box.
I have disconnected the VRO wiring at the engine, i did this as soon as i picked the engine up due to not trusting the VRO.
Would disconnecting the wires for the VRO have anything to do with not hearing the beep at the control box ?
Someone else said its a temp warning horn ?
i have no idea what it is to be honest or how its supposed to work.
someone else said its a low oil warning horn for the VRO oil tank ?

exactly what is the beep sound for ? and when should i hear it etc

simple test to see if the horn actually works first. Disconnect the temp sender at the top of the head it's a brown wire, now ground the wire ( the one attached to the harness not sender) using a nail or something to the engine head. If it beeps (make sure key is switched on ), horn works, if not then get a new horn, they seemingly fail quite regularly.

beep should sound when you turn the key initially as a test. mainly is there to let you know of an overheat prob or low oil or oiling problem with the VRO attached.

Thanks for that fishfeatures,
ill try that test in the morning..
you say these go wrong a fair bit, is there any other horn i can get instead of the original type ?
or am i sort of stuck with having to use the original ones from omc dealers ?

for something like this I'd tend to use OEM ones as I'd trust them over others esp when my engine is at stake.

But surely if these horns are known to fail, then there must be something a bit better on the market that will last ?

a warning horn that fails is giving false peace of mind !!!!!!

maybe ill look into getting a temp sender and guage to realy be on the safe side.

and a water pressure guage if this engine can have one.
