Hi all.

I have a very strange problem with my Evinrude 60 -1996, the engine starts easy, idles fine and revs good when pulling the handle forward with no gear and when pulling on the carburetorlinkage. But, when I pull the engine in forwardgear wont it rev more than max 2800 rpm`s.....not even if I gives it full throttle on the carburetorlinkage....and if I pull it back to neutral, it revs good again. And when putting it in reversegear does it rev fine.....this is strange....I have checked the linkages and so on....but cant find anything that can be the problem. Please help!:(

Regards,
Fredrik, Sweden.

You might start by checking the basics, compression, spark and fuel delivery. It could be running on 2 cylinders. In neutral those ran pretty well on two cylinders, but under load the would not run well.

Hi.

I have checked all the things you mentioned and they all seems to be ok. But I just removed the thermostat and in the plastic-cup in the bottom where the water shall pass was there alot of small pieces of plastic in all of the rectangular openings. It seems like the thermostat not have been able to open to it`s full capacity. Maybe it has made the engine to hot and the S.L.O.W system has been engaged??

I took apart the VRO unit and there is a "crack" in one of the membranes, pls see the pics below. Might it be the reason why it has no power?
