Evinrude 55hp dieseling after I turn it off

1969 Evinrude 55hp

It runs good. I turn it off and it continues to run... Eventually it stops.

How do I fix that?

True "dieseling" usually indicates horribly bad carbon buildup, you need to decarb, follow the procedure outlined in the top secret thread...

Major decarb and regularly from there on. Must be coked up to the hilt !!!!

I sort of don't believe it is dieseling. I'd rather think the blocking diode is bad. It is at the ignition switch. Test it like any other diode.

Did this start suddenly or has it progressed over some time?
If it is sudden, carbon buildup is less likely than F R's suggestion of an electronic component failure.
