Evinrude 4hp water pump

Hi
I'm new to the forum and to boating!! I've recently acquired a Evinrude 4hp, I'm not sure of the age but have the engine number. Does anyone know where the waterpump might be positioned as when I ran the engine for 5 minutes it got extremely hot. Many thanks for any advice.

The waterpump is located at the wide spot in the lower unit, just above the cavitation plate. Get a manual.

It's a relatively easy fix, assuming the bolts holding it in aren't rusted or corroded too bad.

If you have the model number ... tell us .. then we know what we are talking about ... and we can tell you the year of manufacture.

However AFAIK all the 4 hp models have the water pump on top of the gear case, driven by the vertical drive shaft.
