EVINRUDE 25 hp lower unit

I have a 1980 evinrude 25 hp 2 stroke tiller longshaft. Need a lower unit (above prop exhaust split gearcase style) anyone know what years interchange with this? It uses a long stud with a nut on top as one of the mounting attachments

I believe 82 and earlier will fit. You will need to check the parts fiche to be sure. There was a spline change around then.

The 28 HP models from around the late 1980 to 1996 also used that lower unit.

I would think with all the blown power heads there should be quite a few out there.

A lot depends on the location.------In salt water areas they have all been scrapped.------In some locations you find an old time shop that will work on these motors.----Keeps folks going and no used ones to be had.

Thanks everybody. Wound up buying 2 25 hp parts motors. I swapped the whole short shaft lower unit and water tube to make this a short shaft motor. Came out great.

Funny, I have a 77 and the foot is configured like this. I wonder why they used 2 and maybe even 3 during those years. Was a 28 a downsized outboard? Maybe they had lots of gearcase's laying around?

I also wonder if there all interchangeable.

The lower unit in post #11 is a 35 HP !!----------Yes they used " marketing " of a 28 special to get rid of old inventory.
