Evinrude 1987 110HP Reed Valve Interchange

Can any person offer me this answer. My reed valves are bad on my 1987 Evinrude 110 HP. Are there other OMC engines whose reed valves will replace mine? Is there a site which may offer this information ? Thanks.

Welcome w2!<br /><br />Using "used" reeds, if that's what your looking for, really ain't a real wonderful idea. You might get hold of reeds that are bad or bent and you don't want to flop them over as they may end up as scrap over the piston. New reeds are still available from your local John/Rude Dealer.<br /><br />Consider new reeds or install Boyesen two stage reeds. The Boyesen reeds take a little more work to install and you'd have to make some changes to the idle air jets but they are a definate plus for the engine. I installed them in by 86' Rude 90hp.

Any V4 crossflow from 1973 & newer as well as any V6 crossflow are direct interchanges. Any reed from any 60 degree motor is the same also. Reeds from 2 cylinder motors in the 40 to 60 hp 44 cid motors are the same too however they may have a tighter reed stop spec but you can open that distance. Basicaly any reed that looks like yours will work.<br /><br />Its rather unusual for a stock steel reed to need replacing. Whats wrong with yours?

OBJ and DHADLEY,<br />You guys are awesome. Your information is invaluable and I appreciate it tremendously.Thanks. DHADLEY- regarding whats wrong with mine. Motor was a mess when given to me.Carbs were gunked up, looked as though water got into them. When I removed them for a rebuild I noticed that the lower reed valves were a bit corroded. The corrosion of the aluminum has a white pitting appearance which seems to be holding the valve open a bit._
