Got new bypass cover gaskets installed and everything put back together . Looking at the starter solenoid it looks like they may have the yellow/red wire coming from the harness hooked up to the wrong post on the solenoid . The bottom I post goes to ground and the top S post is for the y/r wire to harness correct ?
If it was hooked up backwards what trouble would that cause ?
I picked up cheap in-line spark test light from H/F .. With the motor turning over a flashing light would indicate spark correct ?

Test light flashed on all cylinders . I,m assuming that's a good sign .
I guess next up will be to start looking at getting fuel to it ?
I know It will need to have the waterpump /impeller replaced . But for the sake off seeing if will run can I hook the muffs up and by any chance it starts up and runs . If no pee and I shut it down fast . Will it do harm to the motor If run for just a few seconds ?

I dont know what spark tester that is but you need to check the spark jumps a 7/16 gap. A light wont show if the spark is actually strong enough in the cylinder to ignite the fuel.
No that shouldnt cause any problems so long as the water is definitely getting to the impeller. As without the water lube it can end up breaking up and shooting parts into the powerhead. You should be able it run it for like twenty seconds to give it a chance to warm up and listen for any bad idle, just dont increase the rpm as you might cause a run away

Hooked it up with some fresh fuel and gave it a shot ..

Before I started it I made sure the filters were clean . I also took the spark plug wires off and turned the motor over a few times to get the pumps working ..
I noticed that it was peeing before I started it up .. Does that mean that the thermostat is stuck open or missing ? idk
I know you guys see this stuff everyday but I got to say i,m pretty stoked about it ! :joyous:

Engine sounds healthy. Not a lot of vibration at idle-smooth. Looks like a winner! If you run the engine on the garden hose with strong pressure, it's possible that the water may force itself all the way up to the telltale. A normal event. Really the only thing about these older engines is that any original fuel hose is not rated for ethanol fuels. The hose bill break down and black bits will migrate down into the carbs jets. All I'm saying is make sure you replace any original hoses-if they have not yet been done.

Sounds good.--Always run the fuel out of the carburetors when taking boat out of the water.---Best way to keep the carburetors clean.

Thanks guys ! I know for sure it's been sitting for at least 5 years . The fuel hoses actually look like maybe they were replaced before it got leaned up against a tree .
I run it again today and one thing I noticed was it spit out a lot of gunk from the exhaust . Then the water that was flowing out of the 2 round water ports on the back slowly started slowing down so I shut it down .. After a while when it cooled a bit I started it back up . Water was peeing from the tube but no water was coming from the 2 round ports so I shut it down again .. The thermostat must be open for water to flow from the ports correct ?
I assume a new waterpump is in order . Hopefully that's not too difficult of a job . I'm debating on tearing it down to do a good cleaning and new paint but i'm just a bit apprehensive on my mechanical abilities ...
Maybe just a partial tear down ... I do want to learn more ....

Sounds good! Any motor that's been sitting very long should by all means have the water pump ( impeller) thermostats, bypass valves and carbs cleaned.
