Evin Rude Side mount Control

I have an older evinrude side mount control and the ignition broke off, I'm sure it was due to old age. However, I was wondering if I could purchase a replacement ignition or would I need to purchase a new side mount control. I would really prefer that I was able to replace the ignition vs buying a new side mount control. Does anyone have any suggestions or creative ways to replace the ignition? Right now, I have to start my boat with a screwdriver :(. (Don't worry it's my boat!) The side mount control operates a 1975 johnson/evinrude 115hp outboard model# 85593E, if that helps any. This is my first boat and I now realize owning a boat is like throwing money into a hole, so far I replace the helm, steering cable, and two ignition packs.

Re: Evin Rude Side mount Control

Do you know where I can get the ignition switch wiring diagram for a 1975 Johnson 115hp Model #85593E. I also have a question concerning my motor, when I google this model number I never see any result for a 1975 115 Johnson outboard motor. That model number alway appears as a 85hp. Did johnson make a 115hp motor in 75? I got the serial and model number from a plate near the engine.

Thanks

Could be someone replaced the transom clamp, installed a used part from another engine. Look for a quarter sized core plug on the block and see if there is a model number on it.

Re: Evin Rude Side mount Control

Thanks for the info. I had to remove the coil pack to see the core plug. Sure enough it reads 85593E, which leads me to believe that I have a 85 hp motor instead of the 115 hp listed on the engine cover. Any way, where am I able to get the wiring diagram for the ignition switch.

Thanks
