Hey guys, this is my first boat on iboats and hopefully you guys can give me a hand. Recently I had a bearing go on my escort trailer and it destroyed the spindle so I am going to have to replace the whole axle. Unfortunately I have not been able to find one that is identical in measurements. The total length of the axle from spindle to spindle is 93 3/8'' and the closest I have been able to find is 92''. The hub face measurement on the old axle is 87 3/4 and the closest I can find to that is 87 1/4''. My old axle also had a 2'' drop on it and didn't know if I could put a straight axle under the trailer or if I had to keep the drop. So my question to you guys is does any one know where I can get an axle to exact measurements or do you think the one I found with close measurements would be ok. I was going to use this axle as a replacement but I am not sure if it will work or not. Thanks for any and all help you guys can give.

Re: Escort Trailer Axle

Welcome aboard...... is the slightly shorter axle going to cause tire interference problems ......... Many have had luck with replacement axles from tractor supply. Take allot of measurements and see if you have the room for shorter.

In the past I have made my own by purchasing the spindles from Northern Tool and buying square stock locally and making my own.

Why can't you buy a spindle from a trailer repair place and have it welded on? It's alot cheaper.

X2, get a length of square stock and weld the spindels on, prolly only way your going to get and exact size replacement, and it usually is much cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I did just what you said. I ordered up a set of spindles from easternmarine today and I also got a piece of square tubing. I will have it all welded up by my local machine shop as soon as the spindles arrive. Thanks everyone for the help. I really appreciate it.

I'd ask your welder for a quote. Around here the cheapest I found was $90 to weld on just one spindle. Custom axles aren't that spendy. Check out abctrailerparts.com. $140 for a drop axle with hubs and I think he charges about $16 for cusom sizes. Shipping is pretty cheap too.
