I put my boat in the water and start it up and run about 10 minutes to my fishing hole. I shut it down and troll around for about an hour. I try to start my the engine and it gives out one short beep (normal) then a long beep about 5-7 seconds long. Then it won't start. I fiddle with it and try and try and it goes through the same process. I have changed the fuel filters, oil&filter, rebuilt the water pump. The problem is it doesn't happen all the time. Like today I fished and it was fine, then I went to another hole and that time it had the problem. The engine isn't running when the long beep goes off. It goes off after the key is turned on and about a second after the short self check beep and it lasts for about 5-7 seconds. Someone else had this very same issue but there was no resolution. Anyone have any ideas?

That is the biggest problem with many of the threads. Folks come in with a problem, comments are made and they never return to close it out. I call them one and done folks

Being a 2017, you need to have the motor scanned for codes. Need a dealer, Rinda techmate scann tool or diacom software

Thanks, I'll get it scanned. I'll report back so others can maybe find a fix.

How’s your battery voltage when it happens ? Imagining you may have power draw whilst fishing, with gadgets an all.

It's fine. All the only accessory I have is the trolling motor and it's on a separate battery. Thanks though. The Fish Finder is on it's own battery too.

LOL, I hooked my fish finder up to a 18 volt power tool battery. I just take two and when it gets low I plug in a fresh one. Usually lasts all day. There's an adapter one can get to use the power tool battery...

Update: I'm taking it in to get it scanned on Monday. I did one more check, I looked at the thermostat and it looks fine. Sometimes debris builds up in there but not mine. Could someone tell me where the TEMP sensor is on this motor? 2017 60hp Merc outboard EFI 4 stroke

True, here it is.

1C528460. I saw that sensor, but I thought it was the oil PSI sensor. I'll look into it. Thanks.

UPDATE:
I got the engine scanned and well, there were no errors. So the search continues. I have no idea where to go from here. I'll update when I find a solution.

If your not getting the long beep then there would be no code. A dealer G3 scanner should be able to look for past codes, but a Rinda would not be able to. Here is the warning beeps for the EFI

He used the G3, no past codes. The problem is when I turn on the key it's one short beep the after a second or so it beeps for about 5-7 seconds. It doesn't happen all the time.

Intermittent is always hard to find. The listing about gives you what can cause the long beep. With no past codes I'm thinking a voltage issue. Might just be corrosion

I’m still thinking like I was originally. Voltage (battery) and or connection issues around the battery. Especially when you say it beeps after ignition is left on for a while.

I didn't say it beeps after the ignition is left on for a while. I said when i turn the key to on it beeps the normal self check beep, then about a second later it beeps for about 5 to 7 seconds and then won't start. It craznks and cranks but no start. Then after a period of time I'll try again an it starts, no problem. The connections and battery are fine, I went over them wire by wire this past weekend for about the 10th time.

Hope it stays that way long enough to figure it out. Might be one of the sensors like temp

It'll probably be something like, "why didn't I see that"... Or so simple that it's overlooked...

I hate to rattle on about the battery. But honestly it can throw so many people off the battery, these modern engines. Unless it’s tip top…it can sometimes just not fire them up. Despite cranking over healthy enough sounding. If the battery is weakened in any way…whilst it’s cranking…the ecu and ignition components can be neglected of enough current and voltage ti even try and fire up…just with all the load going to the starter. Very common these days on new engines. It’s thrown me a few times too. Couldn’t understand why it could be the battery if it turns over like a bat out of hell. But it’s 100% true. Had it happen on my mpi mercruiser a few times and also on my modern 2016 merc 115. Spins over as well as you like. Won’t fire. Change the battery…all is well.
