Re: engine won't idle-how to remove flywheel
If you took the flywheel nut off and have a puller, it sounds like you are on your way. Tighten down the puller and rap the center post/bolt once or twice with a hammer (firm but careful).

You can get hurt taking off a flywheel, so wear gloves and be careful. When it pops it makes a sound that may make you believe it busted in half, if you don't know what to expect. Don't get hit by the puller when the tension is released.

I'm not sure what you mean by cavitation -- might be exhaust coming out down by the prop if you are running in a test barrel. Make sure you have enough water in the barrel (water level well up on the leg). It's also not a good idea to run at high rpms in a barrel, at least for sustained periods. The motor could overheat.

The proper oil mix might be a little richer than 50:1 (i.e., 48:1) -- might err on the side of a little extra oil.

I'll be curious about your findings, by the way, as I have a similar problem with a 9.9 Chrysler (95HA). I rebuilt the fuel pump (and cleaned the carb), but still have the problem -- might go through the fuel pump if you haven't done so. In my case, I suspect I've got a weak coil. I just got it back together, so I think I'll let it be for a while -- but would like to hear what you find with yours.
