You may be correct, but so far....my research and talking to fellow boaters, many have not been impressed with the 4 strokes, especially when you consider their cost. Your comparisons are the first I have heard about where the 4 stroke out performs the 2 stroke. Fuel economy by all means yes, but overall performance..seeing is believing...
Have a wee look at this. Very impressive. Can tell you first hand that I’ve compared my boat to an identical one with a 115 2+2 on it. Enormous difference in performance between the two. Seriously powerful machine for the 115 badge. Well known to be significantly more than the badge suggests. As for the pro xs version of the 115. That’s something else again.
Have a look at this comparison between the 115 new merc and what should be a much more powerful engine. The excellent 125 optimax.

Self Service sells a lot of Unneeded Parts. Car owners are prime examples of that. They see the Check Engine Light, hook up a Scanner, Scanner says Code*** saying a Sensor is reading an Engine Parameter that is out of Range, so the owner puts in a New Sensor. Sensor was likely not the problem... It was reporting a Condition caused by something else. But the Parts Suppliers love this cause they sell a lot more parts
I buy it all individually Jimmbo. It’s cheaper than my mercruiser for the consumables for sure.
Only additional cost over a 2 stroke for a service is the oil in the sump. But I’d imagine the 2 stroke oil over a season would amount to vastly more expense for sure.

The 115 2+2 is a Dog out of the hole. The late model inline 6 90s were real stump pullers, they just lost their Breath above 5000 rpm due to small ports. They were propped best between 4700 - 4800 rpm.

I ordered a 60hp 4 stroke. Not really what I want but feel better about the weight. Thanks for the rousing discussion.
