Engine starts but will not idle

I have a 1989 Four Winns Horizon 180 with a Cobra 3.0l V6 . The engine will start but it will not idle below 1,000 rpm. I drained the gas tank and put a new fuel filter and new fuel. Also I changed the spark plugs. Does not have a miss but it dies when you pull throttle back to the neutral position.

Check the engine for a vaccum leak. If you have the q-jet 4bbl also check the primary throttle shaft for play. I had play on the throttle shaft on my 350 5.7l and it did the same thing, it wouldn't idle. I replaced the carb. with a marine edelbrock carb. and it idles nice.
