A v8 should be able to take its place without any issues? I have plenty of extra room in the front

Yeah they didn't winterize. The boat I have now same thing. I bought it at a good price knowing the PO had cracked the block- 37 hrs you could eat off the inside of the engine.

I hope you are not on the hook for your friends lack of attention to detail?

Yes a V8 can go in its place. That's what I did pulled the 4.3 and went back in with a 5.0. I was able to use all the accessories front and back of the engine so I bought a partial engine (long block, intake, carb, ignition) plus exhaust manifolds. If you do it might as well get a 5.7 its the same same and same amount of work. Side mounts will be 4.5" farther forward too. My boat the engine mount stringers were about 12" long so Se Ray could drop a V6 or V8 in without any mods.

So all the accessories fit also…. Iv been around Chevys a lot a not many difference in the 4.3 an the 5.7 besides 2 cyls, I actually will still come out ahead even if I bought a crate engine. I bought this boat originally for 400$ fixed an used it maybe 1k $ total in it my buddy wanted it bad, he brought me 3500$ cash an I couldn’t say no. He ruined it an posted it for sale , I had my brother who he hasn’t met offer him 400$ an he accepted it. I was expecting to have to replace the engine worst case anyway, expexct the worst an u won’t be disappointed unfortunately , but I will be using it this summer one way or another and I will take the long way just to pass by his house

Mines gen 1 but also has 1.47 gears which is for a v8 I have a few sets of gears just not the ones perfect for this setup, is gen 2 any different at the housing ? I know the rams are shorter.? If I had a v8 my gears would work is what I was getting at…

I was worried he expected you to fix it.

Yes 4.3 and 5.7 are a lot of same parts sans 2 cylinders. It saved me about $1500. I even was able to reuse most of my cooling hoses, fuel pump and filter, wiring harness (did need a V8 ignition module), starter, motor mounts, flywheel cover, coupler.

Since the exhaust is roached really not much difference between another 4.3 and 5.7 cost wise.

Depending on what drive is on it you may be able re-prop it. I kept my V6 ratio drive and went up 2" in pitch.

these were photos of the 4.3 that was in my boat - 37 hrs when this was done by PO... rust is from sitting outside for a few weeks after janking it

Absolutely - 4.3, 5.0, or 5.7 get a newer vortec headed one, change head gaskets, freeze plugs, circ pump, and swap over your accessories. You will need a marine intake, and carb. If yo have a thunderbolt the distributors are the same except trigger wheel and cap. Although the engine will run with a V6 module you need a V8 module as the V6 doesnt have much advance built in

Yo may end up needing a electric fuel pump if your original had a mechanical one and you get a later block with no mechanical fuel pump provision

So if I got a 4.3 vortec , this intake now won’t fit right , it’s not a vortec cause I’d like to use this carb an stuff it’s all new

no, a 1990 V6 motor intake wont fit a V8, and while it says vortec on the valve covers, its not a true vortec headded motor as those came out in 1996

I no v6 intake won’t work on v8 . An I’m positive mine is not vortec . But finding a non vortec v6 would be hard to do an not worth the time mine needs to many parts, I’m gonna look for another v8, they also broke my platform mounts on the back anyone know what exactly there called an where to get them il add some pic also, these were made by dolphin marine I believe an are out of business. I do know the angel an lengths I need also

Yeah I agree finding and older non vortec may be difficult given the age and makes less power. ou can easily find marine intakes for vortec 4.3 or vortec 5.0/5.7 Engines. If you have a new carb I’m sure that can work, but may need re jetting.

on the swim platform brackets not sure if they are stainless or aluminum? A decent local welder can likely repair them if you remove them
