So be sure to check your water pump impellers. This one was just a couple years old. Unless I am mistaken, my 1966 Evinrude 60653 has no tell-tale stream. I was pretty confident impeller was ok, boy was I wrong. Maybe a crappy part that I purchased. In a matter of minutes, I overheated the engine. Smoke and smell. So after a tow back and licking my wounds, I tore the lower unit off and the impeller was toast. So disheartening. My question is, what are the odds the engine is alright? I lubricated the cylinders and tested compression. Two at 90psi and two at 120 psi. They seemed to hold the pressure. Engine pulls through fine. I know there might be someting cracked and I will find that out if I can get it running. Someone rip the band aid off and give me my odds to set my mind at ease. Why would they design and engine without a tell-tale stream??? Fingers crossed.
