My 1981 Evinrude 70 hp motor was running great yesterday however, when I turned it off and removed the key, I got both an electric shock (at the key hole) and the motor would not stop running. I disconnected the fuel line to stop the engine (was going to push the choke in to kill it but one shock per day is my limit). After reading other posts on this website I checked and tightened all of my wire connections on the motor and also installed a new ignition switch. Upon doing so, I no longer am getting any spark at the plugs. Even tried putting the old iginition switch back on and same no spark issue exists. Not sure if these two issues are related but sure seems like it. Any help with this would be appreciated.
PROBLEM IS NOW SOLVED -
Bad ground at engine was reason for no spark - must have ungrounded it when I tightened it
New ignition switch corrected the problem with the engine not shutting off.
