I am extremely new to outboard motors and could really do with some help identifying an electrical part on my 40 hp 2005 Johnson 4 stroke motor. One of the wires coming out of the part is burned up, any help would be greatly appreciated. The attached pic shows the part.

Try BRP's website and look at the parts diagrams for your motor:

Good website Jim but it does not show the part. I do have the Seloc manual for the outboard but that does not show it either. I will keep checking, thanks Stan.

A good dealer should be able to ID the part ... bring the model and serial nos.

It looks like a plug for an electrical connector. Are you wanting to replace the wiring or the connector?

If its a true 4 stroke its a Johnzuki motor, you can try looking at a DF40 Suzuki at Browns point marine and see if it shows what your looking for.

Yes, it does look like an electrical connector (for ground wires?). You may get away with taking it apart (it looks like the top snaps off) cleaning the contacts and repairing the wire. The wires appear to be fairly heavy. follow the wires. Where do they go?

Thanks a lot gents, the part in question is indeed a ground connector. some good quality connectors and some heat shrink did the trick. now I find out the high pressure fuel pump is bad,ahh the joys of boating.
