New Suzuki 60 hp 4 stroke loses prime and stops after being on plane , sometimes loses prime and stalls while being on plane. This is a new motor (2016) and the problem first appeared after the third hour of breakin. I've ran the engine several times since and the problem occurs mainly after being on plane for a few minutes. The engine now has 8-9 hrs. Any suggestions prior to returning to the dealer for diagnosis?

Welcome to iboats!! :welcome:
Personally I would not touch it since it is under warranty. If you mess with it you may void the warranty.

Other than making sure the fuel line is plugged in correctly I'm going to say the same thing, don't touch it.

Does the motor die and then you have to pump the bulb to fill the VST up with fuel before starting again?
does it help to keep the motor running by having someone pump the primer bulb?

If so,it is probably sucking air some where or has a restriction, making fuel pump not able to get enough fuel to keep up at high RPMs

Had a similar problem with my new Yamaha f90 (see my posts) Does your motor always crank when cold? When it dies on plane had the warm engine been shut down for 30+ minutes, bring up on plane and engine dies? I did all the checks guys offered advice on with no help. Mechanic luckly found the VST tank vent was crimped from the factory, causing vapor lock when warm engine shutdown for 45 min, mine would crank, get on top and then die like out of gas, pump primer bulb and it would fire back up. What ever you do, do not take out your wrenches and start dismantling parts, my mechanic contacted Yamaha and their first question was did owner take a wrench to it....luckly I did not. Take notes to show mechanic exactly what it is doing and when, good luck I feel your pain.

I know this is an older thread but hoping someone may be able to help. I have a 2021 Suzuki 60. With the same problems as bryanzzz boats fine on initial run but after fishing 30-45 min take off it may go a couple min then bog down or completely shut off. This started right after break in period and no dealer has been able to figure it out they claim it don’t happen when they run it but they probably aren’t letting sit the 30 min like when it’s happening to me. They said they can’t start throwing parts at it without it doing it to them, but it’s so random it’s hard to diagnose. I May go 3-4 trips with no problem then may do it 3-4 times a trip. Very aggravating for a brand new motor
