Motor starts right up but while accelerating out of gear the motor will not idle down. I changed throttle and shift cables and checked the linkage. When I turn it off it sometimes resets but only to initial idle. When acceleration happens, it does not decelerate. Any idea what could be causing this?

Dont do this!!!! Start engine, wait till it warms up and comes out of Quickstart, then you can rev it a lil but not over 2K

This is a Ficht and doesn't have Quickstart. They are known on the 60°motors to break the TPS if cables are not set up correctly, especially with a hot foot.

Started the engine today and it idled out at 1800 rpm. I increased rpm after 2-3 minutes to 2800 rpm, attempted to decelerate and the rpm would not go down. I turned off immediately after that. I restarted the engine and it again idled out at 1800rpm. Thoughts from you experts or experienced mechanics would be appreciated. Thanks. EJ

OK Im back. I changed the Throttle and shift cables. I had the engine professionally diagnosed $200 and he said it was the TPS sensor. I changed the sensor and nothing changed. I cleaned all moving parts in the throttle system and still nothing. It starts right up but will not idle under 3k. thoughts?? Thanks in advance..

FICHT and ETEC engine run with a computer aka ECU or EMM ... both can be accessed with EV DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE.....and you shop should have plugged in to detrmine any faults in the history file.

if changing the TPS did nothing the shop should have found a fix or maybe it is best find another shop !!!

i will post a write up on EV diagnostic....and a book to read on FICHT engines

see a comment from the ETEC user board from years ago....
It sounds like you could have a fuel lift pump diaphragm leaking. If the diaphragm ruptures it can leak fuel into the pulse hose which is connected to the crankcase. When this happens, the engine gets an additional charge of fuel and will idle up. It will go away temporarily when you rev it up because you are clearing the additional fuel out of the crankcase. You would think WOT would be affected but, since the vapor canister holds a fair amount of fuel, the lift pump still has enough efficiency to keep it filled at WOT.

the crankcase may also be getting "EXTRA" fuel because the top VST vapor shut off valve is stuck open or malfunctionning. IT should only recycle VAPOURS via the top hose. IF the valve lets fuel flow out like a leaking toilet bowl float the engine will ingest extra fuel from the incoming airflow while it should only get it's fuel from the injectors !!!.

you can test for a stuck open VST vent by removing ( very carefully) the vent hose then pump the primer bulb to fill the VST chamber then...NO FUEL should flow out the vent !!!

if you plan inspecting a defective float valve in the VST BE VERY CAREFULL not to break of any nipples $$$$$ or you will be looking at a new VST possibly NLA the top can be openned for cleaning the float and valve

it is not an ETEC I know but aside from some mecanical differences and operating voltages the basic concept is the same .. fuel injection CPU controlled.

For example the EV diagnostic software will run on both FICHT and ETEC ECU/EMM 's .

If you look at a FICHT VST and a ETEC VST they are cousins.

To service them is next to impossible without the software to tell you what is wrong with them see a typical report produces by EV diag.
