Newbie here.... trying to remove my props as part of winterization.
Volvo Penta DPS-A Outdrive.
I purchased the tool from Amazon and the outer nut would not budge. The tool actually bent as I was trying to unscrew the outer nut.

Can an impact wrench be used to remove the outer nut? If not, any tricks for me to try?

What if the inner nut is just as hard?

Do not use an impact wrench.

Soak the threads with something like Kroil or PBBlaster overnight and use a regular socket and breaker bar.

When was the last time you had the prop off?

I just bought the boat in late Summer so I don't know when it was last serviced. Although, gear oil was changed 5/21 which means the prop had to be removed then. I'm guessing the shop just torqued it down too tight.

They also changed all the O-rings so I am wondering whether or not I even need to remove the prop this year. Thoughts? Do you happen to know the size socket I would need?

I don't know the number of hours since this was done... it is not noted on the work order.

The primary reason to remove the prop is to grease the splines so it doesn't corrode onto the spline.

I don't own my Volvo Penta boat anymore so I can't help you with that.

Is one of these a left hand thread?

Trim the drive up and spray the shaft and nut with penetrating oil. Trimming it up helps the oil penetrate into the nut. Not sure the size of the nut but it is sized in mm. After you get it off, remember to coat the shaft and threads liberally with triple guard grease.
