Re: Dumb, Just plain dumb.
OK let's sum it up.
If a trained stunt man taking all the right precautions did it, it is a cool stunt. Think about all the great stunts in every James Bond movie. Many of them set Guiness World records. By "all the right precautions" I would include the cleared lake, remote controls, hidden crew, etc.
On the other hand, if it was done AS IT APPEARS--a guy by himself on a public lake with no back-up, cut-off, etc. it is unreasonably dangerous to others on the lake, and to his boat but who cares. This includes the completely false notion that the camera guy could leap into the run-away boat and take control. This has been discussed before and it is not a reasonable option. Getting out of an unmanned running boat is inexcusable.
Here is what may have a lot of you stirred up: if it was done "professionally" it will be made to look like it was not--that is the desired effect. We don't pay to see the safety net under James Bond.
So can we all agree now? It could be OK; it could be not OK. We need more facts to know.
