I don't understand this whole thread. Unless you are running on a nascar track (left hand turns the whole time) why in the world would someone be worried about driving a four wheel drive vehicle 40 miles in four wheel drive? This isn't 1969, and even if it was it should only be a concern to the tires?? In my opinion there are much more serious things to worry about, forget about this !

Hey Ken, I'm just outside of Columbus on the east side. Where do you boat up there? I'm familiar with your location, my job takes me around the whole state. Thanks everyone for the reassurance on this issue.

Waterone, 1969 or present, part time 4x drive does not want to be driven on dry pavement. When the wheels are not allowed to slip (gravel, ice, snow) it creates a binding up of the gears, shafts and bearings in the transfer case. Driven long enough with no wheel slippage, something will give way in the transfer case.

Full time 4x drives have a viscous coupler between the front and rear axles so any difference in wheel speeds are absorbed in the coupler not by hard steel parts.

Wow is all I have to say- if you think that running a 4x4 on dry pavement is fine you obviously lack common sense!!!
