They encourage (well, require) you to powerload. If you can drive your boat far enough to hit the latch without powerloading, you backed the trailer in too deep and it isn't going to center.

Their videos cleverly show shallow ramps with vehicles backed in deep. Every person i've seen locally with these are near full power to get up a steeper ramp.

Power loading, does wonders to the parking pawl inside an automatic transmission. Even with the parking brake on. I would never do it unless I had a buddy on the brakes in the tow vehicle. Like most "automatic" step ups, there is a small window where they work as designed.
