Re: Draw Tight vs Hidden Hitch vs Putnam Hitch?

hadvisor, There is a note on the Draw-tight brand that my car needs exhaust modification with dual exhaust. So I crossed that one off the list. I ended up with the Hidden hitch, not the cheapest, but from talking to some retailers, they felt it had the best fit. If the finish does not look too promising, it might get a coat of rustolium.

Bill, thanks for the heads up on the clearance. I'll keep an eye on it when mounting.

Johnshan1, it could be a regional thing. Supply and demand.

Nick in Spartanburg, SC,

I like your set up for practicality, but, you have compromised your air bag activation, in case of an accident.

Your insurance company may NOT payoff in a personal injury claim.

Mark42,

Your Town Car has a VERY limited tow capabilty, depending on model year.

DJ,
Yeah, I'm not going to be towing any 35 footers with that ride! But it is rated for 2000 lbs towing. The main tow vehicle is my wifes Mountaineer, the Town Car is backup for solo trips. I am anxious to see how it tows with the load leveling rear suspension. And unlike most Town Cars, it has 3:55 gears and a Trac-Loc rear. Combined with 255 50 17 tires, it should pull up the ramp OK. ;)

Last fall I had the rear open and inspected the gears and plates, everything was beautiful. Filled with synthetic gear lube and a tube of posi anti-chatter. I'm good to go.

Nick, you might want to get a separate temp gauge for your van. Ford's latest set of temp gauges (since mid '90's) are not true gauges. They are indicators of cold, normal and hot conditions. But they do not display increasing or decreasing temps until the temp reaches the danger zone, then the gauge pops up to the hot range. That is why the gauge reads the same temp going up and down the mountian. A real aftermarket gauge will show you what is really going on.
