It doesn't seem that anything else is wrong with it. We managed to get the drain plug out yesterday and about 3.5 maybe 4 gallons of water came out and we don't think that drain plug had been removed in YEARS. But there didn't seem to be that much water in it. I can say that now we've got it out, we will be removing it after every trip.
Nice! That sounds like a lot, but it's out now. There's lots of good info. and lots of help on here for new boaters. Park it with the bow a little high when not in use so whatever's in there will drain out.

Glad to hear you got it out. Now you have two things to worry about. #1 As I said in an early post it is a good idea to keep a spare in the boat. #2 This is the big one. Remember to put it back in before launching the boat. It is preordained that every boater will some day launch without the plug in. I have been operating boats for 70 years now and only can recall doing that twice. Even today I have this sticker on the winch post just to remind me.DSC05024.JPG

We have gotten the current drain plug out and plan to continue removing it when the boat isn't in the water. Thank y'all!

I would worry about rot. You got 5 gal of water out. How much soaked / seeped into the "bones" of the boat? Foam saturated?
Be safe and have someone survey the boat

I have the same bronze on bronze drain plug.

Saltwater use. Plug removed once a year at best. Can’t forget to put it in if you never take it out ;)

Liberal use of a quality water proof, marine grease protects from corrosion
