A public speaker, was waiting at an airport to go to a meeting and give a speech. He walked by a shoe shiner and the shoe shiner very confidently told the speaker "good morning, would you like your shoes shined?" The shoe shiner started shining his shoes and yet kept saying hi and good morning to everyone that came by. One lady came by and again he said good morning very profoundly. The lady kept walking as though he had never spoken to her. The speaker told the shoe shiner that the lady was a real sour puss. The shoe shiner said she walked by everyday and did the same thing. She worked in a shop around the corner from him and never spoke to him even though he would always tell her good morning. The speaker asked him why he kept speaking to her when she was clearly being rude and ignoring him and the shoe shiner said it was because he was never going to let anyone change his personality. The shoe shiner said he owned his personality and that he wanted to be known as friendly. He also said that if he had spoken to the speaker and not the lady that people around would not have known the history or the difference and it would have affected people's perception of him.
