You, like I, remember locks were for places foreign to us. People said "hey" when you met. Not anymore. Everyone is too self absorbed.<br /><br />Best wishes to you, for many more.

Happy Birthday JB. I know how you feel. I think everyone's awareness changes as we age. I can remember as a child, hearing my grandmother say "kids' behaviour today is uncouth."<br />And grown ups saying things like "what's the matter with kids today?", or "when i was his age, i'dd have been to sore to walk." -- and other forms of comparing generations.<br />I have come to an odd (i think) conclusion to all of this.<br />I think we are all born,live, and die in "our time". If there were such a device as a time machine, taking us back into the past, or hurling us into the future would drive us insane.<br />"To everything, there is a season".<br />I have to hold in my heart, the belief that kids today will be able to handle the future we have given them. Faith in that is all i have, because it just doesn't seem to bare-out logically.<br />I look around and see kids who grew up spending most of their time in front of video games... And those are the GOOD kids who's parents figure they "deserve" a video game.<br />But we will be ok, i trust.<br />We made it this far, JB. Happy birthday, my friend.

JB<br /><br />Perhaps I read too much into your question which I thinks is far "deeper" than it originally may seem. I have thought about it a lot and don't know if I am able to articulate my thoughts but here goes. <br /><br />Philosophers believe we are moving into an era that is being called the "age of man". This is where man becomes god and believes that he/she is a deity and able to control. This creates a moral code that is fickle and that suits the mood of the moment, grouping etc. Unfortunately we are not consistant enough to be able to keep the standards high and over time these slip .<br /><br />There are exceptions to the rule .<br /><br />I suppose there are many things that you cannot "feel", this is when they become part of your intrinsic being. Through great personal sacrifice we can choose to nurture traits like respect, honesty, wisdom, kindness, selflessness, love etc. These characteristics can only be obtained by consistantly doing right by folks.<br /><br />Apart from love perhaps wisdom is for me the greatest attribute as this allows one to deal evenhandedly with all manner of people calling on the specific attribute required at the time. That is why you cannot "feel" your wisdom or any of your other traits JB. They manifest as chasms, being the difference between your moral fabric and the world's.<br /><br />There is a personal price for moral fabric, look back and I am sure you will agree with me. Hey, I missed it too! Ditto what heycods said. I turned 40 last September but it was just another day. I agree about the level of disrespect, but I wonder if you just become more cognizant of things like that as you get older or if it is really increasing.
