Donald Wayne Sindledecker
September 26, 1946 - July 19, 2013

As most of you know, one of our members and moderators, Don S, passed away in mid July. Since that time, there have been many things that have come to light. Don was a special man and gave selflessly to this forum. So in knowing this about Don's life, We all felt that the truth needed to be told.

Truth is, all of the iboats forum members both new and old, along with his kitty cat sitting by his side, were his life, family and friends. Turns out Don did not have a "close family" relationship to take care of him in life, or in death. We all were his family. So in light of this news, we as an internet family have been honored enough to step up in order to make the necessary arrangements for his much needed appropriate burial at sea.

Between the moderation team, iboats host, and some members closest to Don, we were able to raise the money needed for Don's cremation. Additionally, on Thursday of this week, provided the weather holds out, one of our iboats forum members will be picking up Don's ashes and depositing them over the Pacific Ocean just outside of Ocean Shores in Washington. One of the many places he loved.

The Moderation Team, iboats host and our close forum members wanted to let you know of the latest news, along with the intended plans, so that on Thursday you could hold a moment of silent reflection or prayer of your own in honor of Don. Also, you all need to be thanked for being the only family that Don really had and enjoyed. You all helped make his life, and his memory, special. Thank you all :)

What a shame. I took the summer off and was going to ask what happened to him because I hadn't seen him on the site since I returned. His help and dedication will be sorely missed by all.

R.I.P. Don S., And thank you to all the mods and who ever else stepped up to do the right thing!

Thank you for the update QC. It is comforting to know that the iBoats community is taking care of the final arrangements.

Beautiful news. So proud to be an iboater. Glad to hear the Old Oracle of the Sea will be laid to rest on the waves as it should be. May his spirit find fair winds and following seas.

Ditto what all have said so far. Being a new user, I feel fortunate to have gotten a response from him on one of my Mercruiser issues over the summer. A toast to all who here are taking the initiative and responsibility for completing Don's earthbound journey.

Godspeed Don.

R.I.P. Don S. Though our paths never crossed, your wisdom will bless the pages of the forums for years to come!

An absolutely great gesture for a very deserving man. I wish I had known then what I know now.

In the words of the great hymn:

Almighty Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep:
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.

God bless those who will be participating - and all who remember.

With sadness the final chapter is written and the book of life is slowly closed as the ashes float atop the seas and soar with the swirling winds. Good bye, Oracle by the Sea.

My wife sometimes complains about how much time I spend on this site. I just told her this story and I think she's starting to see why. That's an incredible thing you guys have done and fitting for all he has done for us and this site.
