Annual Visits/Vaccinations (x11 years) $1,000.00-$1,650.00 (@ $100-$150/visit)
Abscessed 3 root extraction (2/2012) $652.00

Staffordshire Terrier: Parvo with overnight at vet w/ dew claws removed $600.00 (2006) Got pet insurance to pay bill, yeah!
Annual Visits/Vaccinations (x6 years) $600.00-$900.00 (@$100-$150/visit)

Glad I'm not your dog...

vet bills for my three were about $1500 last year. Grooming, food, treats and toys probably another $1500-1800. It does not suck to be one of my dogs...

100% agree dockworker. I'm glad I'm not either. I never keep track of the total cost for my five. I also do not have to worry about them buying new clothes every time the fashions change. I dont have to worry about them asking to borrow my car, I dont have to worry about them dating,I dont have to pay for college, I dont ever have to worry about them coming home pregnant either lol. So if I have to spend a little for their care I'm ok with that.

I was wondering how much you guys spend on average per dog each year at the vet ? :facepalm:

I've had my golden about 3.5yrs (got him as an adult dog) and I've spent roughly 4000 on vet. That includes routine shots and an emergency surgery (3-4vet process) that was about half of that total. A couple anti-biotics trips that were unexpected.

Buy the dog food in bulk, he eats 2cups/day. I recommend spending the $$ on dog training and have whomever will be commanding the dog to attend the training as well because it as much training for the humans as it is the doggies.

about 150 per dog be it the Chiquia or the nova scotia duck toller, the rabies shots are free from the state, vet visits are 10 and meds are ********* from the army, you cannot find a better food for your dog and value than "4 health" sold exclusively by TSC . no corn, wheat or by products, and moderately priced.

about $700 per year in vet bills for the two dogs and two cats. add on top of that, about $300 for meds. however a few years ago, I dropped a few boat units on my american bullmastiff with cushions disease, and a cat that ate yarn.

food on the other hand, about $100 per month for allergy food for the dogs.

I appreciate all the responses my fellow dog lovers. The reason I started this thread was to see if I was getting ripped
off by my vet, and to see if I can afford a dog for future reference. I know we can't antiscipate emergency circumstances, and boy do I know how expensive they can be.
I take Goon ( my dog ) to the vet whenever they say I should, and purchase whatever care they prescribe. Most re-
cently he had trouble urinating. I took him and got some pills with a follow up - $800.00. The doc spent a total of 20,
minutes with him. Every time I take him they hit me with a $49.00, wellness exam. I don't think I have ever got out
of there without dropping $300.00. When he was just a pup they saw him every 3 months. Unfortunately when he was
8, months old he had three serious operations which totalled about 15K.
It is a sad propisition to think that I can't afford a dog. Without one I will have zero true friends, and no one to share
my bed with. :facepalm:

So I have to ask, how much is your life worth in your eyes? $100 REALLY? lmao Unfortunately there are to many pet owners like yourself! Why even have a pet if you think that way? I can say, I am one who steps up for those pets that can't speak for themselves. God bless you my friend.

Our vet charges $35 for an office visit plus procedures. Because we have two fellas everything gets doubled at our annual checkup with shots and tests totals out to about $180 each. In Florida you should treat all of your pets, dogs and cats alike, with Heartguard every month. An Amidicide treatment for heartworms will run you about $600 plus followups visits.

Thanks Puddle Jumper, both are dogs are couch crusiers, more often than not, when the son or daughter are napping on the couch the black on (Chloe) is usually close by if not under...This pic was taken about 9 months ago, my daughter is a little bigger, but way more 'phisticated!

In Florida you should treat all of your pets, dogs and cats alike, with Heartguard every month. An Amidicide treatment for heartworms will run you about $600 plus followups visits.

or go to the farm supply store and get a $35 bottle of ivermectin that'll last you a year or two.

This is exactly why we don't have a dog. I like dogs, my wife likes dogs, but we both know full well what an expense they can be. My sister had a shepherd with bad food allergies. They spent thousands on tests just to end up having to put down a 4 year old dog anyway. I also like the freedom of going away for a few days without having to worry about arranging care for a dog. We have cats. They aren't nearly as rewarding as a dog but we still love them.

the big expense for us is boarding, we don't travel a lot but we're going out of town for a week next month, it'll cost us easily a grand to board the 3.

We use a country town vet, so with 2 cats and 1 dog we spend $300 to $400 a year, if we use the big city vets you can double or triple that number. Cats are in the house, dog lives outside, when we go away there is plenty of food and water set out for the cats, an extra litter pan, the dog has a feeder on the porch and a water pot in the yard that I leave a trickle running in, so not boarding fees plus the dog keeps the punks out of the yard while we are away.

I love my fish tank and the low mant. cost's. I also like the fact that I don't get too attatched to them. I could see how the vets can take advantage of the feelings you get when pets are part of the family, and for me, that is a big investment of both time and $. Pet care is a huge business, and costly too.

Dropped about $5K on surgery for our 5 year old Dachshund's back 5 weeks ago. Herniated discs. He's recovering nicely and worth every penny. Family you know........

THE 4 HEALTH DOG FOOD FROM TS C will will help with allergies a lot as it doesn't have wheat or corn , or byproducts in the ingredient and the price is very moderate. feed your dog only dry kibble and avoid dental issues also.

He eats turkey, and eukanuba every day - some times twice, two grilled chicken breast 5, nights a week, 4, cans of tuna each week , milk when he asks for it, about 6, eggs a month, and half
of whatever I make for myself if he wants it - it is an honor to care for him!

I think Pit bulls,Rotwilers and Doberman Pincher's got a bad rap. Its not so much the dog but the person who has them.But you do have to watch there dog breed habits.
