Does Anyone Know Any Halloween Songs?

I play at a show once a month that consists of several groups that play classic country, bluegrass, gospel or any combination thereof. Most all the players come early and we get together in a back room to jam, get to play with people we normally don’t see that often, make sure we all don’t have the same songs on our play lists for that day, and just have a good time fooling around.

Well one person said since it is so close to Halloween can any one think of a Halloween song. It seems there are no songs specific to that holiday. After he picked out the notes from the Adam Family TV show theme on a banjo we all figured that wasn’t it.

After a little silence while people were reviewing every song they knew in their heads I thought of a brilliant joke.

I came out with “Vesti La Giubba” and got nothing but blank looks. It took a few minutes to explain the significance so I now learned if you want to be a comedian know your audience before speaking.

Just to do a little survey if you got the Halloween reference just mark this post with like. Curious if I was way off base due to my advance age or I just play with a bunch of hillbillies as friends.

Very few in modern age. "Thriller" by MJ probably best example.

My Pandora Halloween station was grabbing stuff from the 50's & 60's mainly yesterday during Trick or Treat. It also pulled some modern songs that made me go....Huh, that's Halloween??

Vesti La Giubba translates as "put on the costume". Probably the most recorded aria for tenors ever. Every well known tenor has recorded it. Enrico Caruso himself sold over a million records of it in the 1900's.

Perhaps I expected at least the retired Junior High music teacher to know it, I now believe most if they heard it would know the song if not the title.

I do now but I had to look it up!! I knew the song as soon as I heard the melody but never paid any attention to the words. Must of heard it on the radio of my work truck back then.

I woulda' missed it too. Opera and I have a "don't love" relationship. I don't love that I don't love it. I can get into some of it here or there, but generally struggle with it. Not sure why.

I like the Motown tune though
