Most, if not all of the variance in speed at different times is not Iboats (I’m assuming it has a dedicated server) but traffic with your own server.

Of course page time depends on loading the Avatars (small) and how many, and size of the pics downloaded from other servers (and how busy they are), that can be huge.

As far as not clicking links with more than 10 posts, not only are you missing out on great debates, but text don't take long to load.

I don't know how the code is written for the options for the forum drop down, but from the "looks" of it, it doesn't load the options until it's clicked... could be wrong there, but that's the way it acts.

Satellite for me.
Slower than dsl, but usually faster than dial up.

iboats is certainly slower to load than any other sites I visit.

iboats is much slower than ebay.

When visiting friends or family with dial up, I don't even try to visit iboats.

Cable, with no one else in my area hooked up = pretty darn fast.

(faster than the speeds my wife deals with for IBM's business network group).

Cable here. Speed seems to vary, some times are slower than others in the same day. I only have this problem on iboats.

Switched over to my Firefox and it seems faster than IE.

Cable and wireless network. iboats is the slowest forum AND commercial site I frequent. It is definitely not just the new stuff (although still very tough with any type of slow or overburdened connection), there is also something else that makes all of iboats slower than most . . .

2Mbs DSL here. It is fast, but I could see how it would be slow with all the graphics and avatars.

Hey! Its not bad at all. Just not state-of-the-art.

I just opened the iboats main page 5 times. Took anywhere from 3 to 6 seconds. Sometimes its fast, sometimes its slow.

The problem is once the iboats server acknowledges the request, it often just sleeps rather then returning packets.

From what I can tell, most of the time spent loading up the main page, or any page for that matter, is waiting on the iboats server to send packets.

With the ISDN service I use, I get minimum 119k digital dedicated service. And I have minimum 4x compression that results in about a 512K connection. And unlike cable service, the neighborhood load has no affect on my speed. There is a dedicated line from my house to the telephone co switch, then right into a multi gig pipline to ISP.

Anyway, the bottom line is iboats is consistently slower than any other website I use.

I have DSL, and this site reminds me of why I left dialup. Slow isn't even the proper word for it. In the last couple of weeks it's been discustingly slow.
The whole forum software is just a pain to use. Not only for slow, but Search is STILL a waste, posting links is hit and miss if using the "More" link. Even the "Forums Help" button says nothing. Now the Website/Forum Issues forum (aka "Newbe Engine Problem Forum" doesn't exist. I had a problem and email a question. No answer.
Guess it's a good thing I decided to checkout the DS Chat or else I would not have known others were having problems also.

No wonder there are so few posts compared to a year ago.

I have DSL....This is the slowest forum. I belong to a few others and there's a difference. Not a real big difference but I'm use to fast.:/
