That’s the style I’m referring to; the bracket bolts onto that pad where the spring used to sit. There is another style that can be used on Vortec engines where there is no choke coil mounting area. The Vortec engines do not have the exhaust cross over so they all have to use electric chokes. If you are using a Holley or Edelbrock you have to use an electric choke but if using a Quadrajet you can leave it with the hot air choke. Which carb are you using?

I thought my Quad was too old to rebuild and tried replacing it with a brand new Holley 4160 that never ran right. In disgust I pulled out that old Quad and rebuilt it with a rebuild kit and a new accel pump plunger from Cliff Ruggles. It ran fine and was 100% better than the Holley. A few months after looking at the Holley sit on the shelf in my garage I took it completely apart and found the problem...loose clutch bolts holding on the rear metering plate....Holley's quality control is not the best.....
If you are going to rebuild the Quad you can stick with the well type choke, electric chokes can be trouble too. As long as your engine warms up properly and the spring is good and the linkage/choke plate is clean they work reliably.
