This is a thread from my local fishin discussion forum.

http://www.fishin.com/forums2/showthread.php?t=68831

Background on the subject: This is a well known, small but best big bass lake in the state of IN. It is a county owned lake so state regs. doesn't apply. To enter the property you have to pay. However, the state's DNR help manage it so everyone have to abide by DNR regs. Up until a couple of years ago, they started imposed a restriction on tournament fishing because of complaints from other boaters. They only allowed a certain amount of tournament permits per year and are issued on a lottery system. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, tournaments are not allowed. The permit fee is about $100/tourny and maybe some other fees involved. Anyway, someone started the thread by asking how has the fishin been. Keep in mind, this is August and fishin is generally tough as nail. As always, some bank beater chimed in and started talking about how bad things are and started blaming everyone and everything. As for me, I got sick of this crap happening every summer so I posted a reply to this keyboard hero. I said to not publicly pointing finger unless he have real evidences other then just words of mouth. I can bet that if he was standing in front of a crowd of people he wouldn't have said what he typed. Am I wrong for telling this guy to stop that behavior? should there be an online forum etiquette?

Re: Discussion forum etiquette.

Bashing is very common on the net, including foul language.

A lot of fora tolerate it, some seem to encourage it.

We do not allow bashing here.

I read all of it and I didn't see where it got all that "out of hand".. Heck, he just called you an "attorney and semantics expert". All right, the attorney thing was way over the top.:D
Heck, ya'll were just talking. Why couldn't he say what he thinks? It doesn't make him right but it's not like he's turning someone into the cops or accusing an individual by name or even a particular bass club. He obviously isn't too fond of bass clubs and it came out in his post a little harsh.
Then again, maybe I'm so rotten I don't realize when I see particular rudeness but I just didn't see how it was all that bad although definitely meant to irk you and he shouldn't have done it with such smart-aleckness.
I did get a few good old-fashioned bashes myself once upon a time on this forum but I consider it my own fault for participating in the nonsense I was discussing and I have noone to blame but myself. Trust me, it can be a lot worse than what I saw on your thread!
Sometimes folks do take things way too seriously and it does stink when some pessimistic jerk like myself turns a "how's the fishing" thread into a "negativity festival".

What's the old saying... If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. If people want to get into heated discussions, there's nothing wrong with that, as long as they can avoid threatning or abusive language, then what's the problem? If everybody's voluntarily participating (last time I checked, the internet was all pretty voluntary), they have the right, and prerogative to walk away at any time.

JBJ I wouldnt be so hard on yourself. I think you are probably just the opposite. I find my self many times, hours or days after the fact saying...."hey I think that SOB was insulting me". Its because you probably are not rude to others so when someone is rude to you it just doesnt register because it seems unfathomable that people can say what they do.

Same thing on every web page with bass clubs. Bunch of KVD wannabes. Been there done that, got the tee shirt. The thing all you guys are missing is ,,, The bass clubs and tourneys do more harm to a fishery then anything else. Do a web search on delayed mortality,,, get educated on why lakes go downhill.
