Disconnecting Fuel line from the outboard

Hi All,

I have a brand new Mercury ProXS 200HP and I am getting ready to install the rigging tube from the motor to the hull of the boat. In order to do that I have to disconnect a lot of cables from the motor (majority electrical) but I was wondering when I disconnect the fuel line and introduce air in it how would I go about getting rid of the air or do I even need to worry about that?

Air in the fuel hose is nothing to worry about. Brand new the hose is full of air. Don't you have a primer bulb?

There is no primer bulb on these new 4 stroke engines. Every time I turn the key to the on position I hear the fuel pump pump gass into the engine. Just like the cars these days.

You won't have any problem with air in the fuel line, just mark the cables so you don't forget what goes where.

Are you sure there is no primer? Had a similar situation with a customer. Their motor quit just outside the marina, they were pinned against the breakwall in some rough seas. I dashed out there and their fuel pump had gone south, I dug around and found the primer bulb way down in the bilge. Pumped it as they started it and kept pumping till they got back in to the ramp. If they would have stayed at the wall they would have gotten beat to death and sank. Scary day for them. They had this boat for 5 years and had no clue it was down there.

I would be curious to know if you could even put enough pressure in the line to make the injectors work properly?

I will look today in the bilge after I get off work. It could be that there is one there but not sure... I was told it does not have one

You are correct. Electronic fuel pump..

Just got it installed today. Looks a lot better. It was a bit more work then I expected since I had to move all the electrical cables that go to the outboard to another feeder tube, because the hydraulic hoses were in the way. I had to get the whole back deck off and move the cables.
