this was true to just recently untill the evinrude etec which are much cleaner (they got 3 stars from the EPA and dfi only got 2) now the etec is the most efficient, quietest and cleanest burning 2 stroke engines in the world.heres there site

One other point for you to consider, a lot of countries are banning two stroke outboards and insisting on 4 stroke. Some even ban any commercial operation from running on petrol totally and insist they run on diesel (Australia).<br />You could add to the project by a small item on local fuel laws.<br />Ross

oh thats a myth my friend they only bann outboards on how much pollution they make not weather or not there 2 stroke or 4 now that they have the etec (cleaner then even a 4 stroke) alot of places will only allow etecs on the lake and they have police looking for 4 strokes and carb 2 strokes on them lakes

Say, OMC. Is the E-tec not a DFI 2 stroke engine?

The E-tec advantage over some other DFI 2 strokes is that it stratifies the charge, allowing leaner burn and almost eliminating scavenging losses, but it is included in my description of DFI 2 strokes.

DFI, stratified charge 4 stroke engines are more fuel efficient and cleaner burning than E-tec DFI 2 strokes. They are just beginning to show up in the automotive field.

You sound like BRP, exaggerating the benefits of the E-tec and bashing all else.

BRP is notorious for exaggeration, OMC, and they are also notorious for bashing the competition. That is why I would not buy a BRP product.

I do not dispute that the E-tec is the cleanest outboard in the current market, nor do I dispute that some places ban outboards that do not meet the Kalipornia emission standards whether they are 2 or 4 stroke. However. . .

What "certain lakes" are you referring to? Are any of them outside Kalipornia? When did Lake Tahoe become "a lot of places"? What law specifies E-tec as the only allowed outboards? Does that law also ban all inboard and I/O engines? Are the "cops" hunting them, too?

That would be California there Mr. Techsin! I agree that the 4 stroke thing is mostly a myth, but there are still some isolated lakes that didn't get the memo . . . Helps keep nice used 2 stroke prices reasonable here.

Roger, and I wasn't, just throwin' a little back atcha . . . I always stick up for California as it gets beat up plenty. There is a reason that a 2500 sq ft home can fetch $1M around here
