Hi.
Im looking into buying new manifolds, risers and elbows. The current setup is.
Manifold - 3” riser/spacer - 6,75” elbow model: 864309T01 ( now replaced with 864309T02 )

Found a good package with the newer model of elbow and manifold.
New setup would be:
Manifold - 1,7” riser - 8,15” elbow 864591T02
The angles are a bit different though.
Old 7degree angle - new 14 degree.

Cooling goes to the elbow today and would keep this setup in the new.
Would the new setup work?

I'd go back with original angled ones. If not, you may have to change y pipe.

Or you will have persistent leaks at the rubber exhaust hose connections.

The letter/number after the part number is used by Merc to identify product revisions or different vendors that produced the parts. You can use either

Ah great! Looking around in a catalog that i found A1 is listed under 7 degree elbow and A3 is listed under 14 degree elbow. but i guess its the same hight so should not make a difference as long as i use the correct elbow witch in this case would be the 7 degree one.

Guess I would need to see what catalog your looking at, I'm not seeing a difference

https://www.glmmarine.com/pdf/Manifold_Catalog.pdf looking at the OEM numbers.

Looking at your links the only difference is this:
864929A1
"Fits 2002‑2004 Sterndrive V‑6 & V‑8 (305, 350 & 377 cid) non‑EC engines serial numbers 0M615000‑0W309999."

864929A3
"2004‑2016 sterndrive V‑6 & V‑8 (305, 350 & 377 cid) non‑EC engines serial number 0W310000 and up 2002‑2016 inboard V‑8 (350 & 377 cid) non‑EC engines serial number 0M390000 and up"

Agree, starting in late 2004 there was "probably" a change in vendor or slight something else. The products are basically the same otherwise there would be a new part number (first 6 digits)

Look thru GLM they clearly list standard or open cooling
8949229
A1 - Standard cooling
A2 - Closed cooling
A3 - Open cooling (same as standard)
A4 - Closed cooling

The difference is which gaskets are sent with the kit. So looks like kits need to be looked at a bit closer. In the parts look up put cursor over the magnifying glass and window pops up which explains what kit is used for. Risers are the same only gaskets change

As always buy parts based on your motor serial number
true, but originally the engine came with wet joint. and about 10 years ago someone did a conversion to dry joint.
Think im going to remove the whole system after the boat is out of water and check all the measurements and partnumbers.
the elbows have part number imprinted, do you know if its the same on the spacer and manifold?

Found the imprinted riser number.
864929-C. Tried searching for it but did not find a good match that tells me if its A1 or A3.

The riser "should" be the same it would just be the gaskets used

That said, if there is a difference between one used on a 7* vs 14* elbow, I wouldn't know what the difference would be

You can buy a SS separator/spacer that goes between riser and exhaust manifold. Just sandwich between two gaskets.
