It's the people or party in power doing their utmost to consolidate and propogate their hold on power. <br />Both parties have a long history of doing it, it's just that the Rebulican leadership, not the party (which I have some admiration for)has taken it to new heights.<br /><br />The Ethics Committee is defunct. They have called a truce and now there is not a forum available for bipartisan investigation of members of Congress.<br /><br />The Ethics Committee needs to be revamped. Instead of being made up of current members of congress who are more interested in party loyality than principled leadership it needs to be made up of neutral watchdogs. I think they should use retired law professors on a rotational basis.
