I have a 1987 Bayiner Contessa, third owner. It was repowered in 1998, has a 300 HP 350CI with 9.1:1 compression. Timing spec is 10 degrees BTC. The distributor is a Delco part #10457092, based on documentation that came with the boat. It is an EST type. There are two plug connectors on the distributor. On the left is a 2-wire plug that connect to coil. On the right there is connector designed for 4 wires, but no wires going connected to it. The 4 openings for wires are sealed, looks like it came that way There is only one pin on the connector, second from the left. To set initial timing, do I need to use an "Initial Timing Connector"? What maximum advance should I expect to see with this setup? Should I consider installing a new Delco EST distributor upgrade kit for about $320 (Cap and rotor have been replaced)?
Any help would be appreciated.
