I found this 22’ chieftain that I believe is going to the scrap yard. I got the guy talked down to $500.. I just don’t think I need two cuddy cabins and there is still work to be done on the islander.. just curious what yall think.

If I had the space, I'd have a few different hulls waiting in the wings. I think it boils down to what you're really looking for in the long term. The condition of the hull, trailer, and presence of critical/desired parts/components would also be a determining factor. A $500 dent free and non-corroded hull on a suitable trailer is much more appealing than a $500 hacked up/corroded/dented hull on an undersized/junk trailer w/ missing corner caps, windshields, trim rails, etc.

I'd love a big 22ft tinny, but in all reality, it's way overkill for anything I'd need/use.

I want to build a boat I can get 20 miles offshore in the gulf with. I found a donor with a 5.0 for $1000. Just conflicted.

Save the old girl and have two competing for your attention! lol You might end up liking them both the same, or maybe one will prove the other is definitely what you want/happy with. 22 Chieftain has a nice cabin.

If I had the room, and the open water, I'd pick it up if it were a solid hull/trailer. I just have a residential garage stall and inland lakes, so one 18ft or smaller is my threshold. I've been tempted by some great deals on good looking hulls, but time and space were the deal breakers.

I might.. wish I could get him down a little lower. I have been following along with your build. Truly inspiring rebuild.

I have just enough room, but not quite enough… I have been reading your builds too. Awesome work!

How much use do you get out of your cuddy, and how would you use this one differently?

Personally I'd probably do 1 cuddy and 1 open for a 2 boat quiver involving a cuddy.

That's a good point, don't need to have a nearly 100% redundant setup. The other thing is taking on more than you have time, energy, space for can easily prevent the main project from really flourishing like it should.
Although, having both models would look really cool sitting side by side in your yard...

I signed up pretty easily for an actually free Imgur account without too much effort and have been posting them that way. I just paste the imgur links into these text boxes and they work, so far.. It's a pain but an ok work around. That's an option for ya.

I would probably do it if i had the space right now. :ROFLMAO:
Assuming it was a good hull and trailer, I see a possible flip.
if it needed an engine and outdrive, then i dnk.

The hull has a dent that was being hidden by a cover. I think I’m gonna pass, I have a 98 5.0 mercruiser I was gonna transplant. A little jealous of the inboards.

Oh man, you have a nice throaty V8 sterndrive needing a good home?!? A 5.0 Chieftain or Islander would sound awesome and really cruise 😎
I was looking for a Chieftain 25 primarily, assumed I'd almost surely end up with the venerable Merc 165, but when I found her and saw the sweet old 5.0 Ford in there it was a done deal. There's nothing quite like that loping marine cam idle sound out of an old pushrod American V8 🎶 This will be my 1st I/O and a big part of it is bc of the sound and swim platform. Are you considering putting it in the Islander?

I don't know from experience but I've read that the GM 5.0 is great for a blend of power and economy. Hoping for similar results with the Ford 5.0.

I’m gonna keep looking for a bigger boat. Gonna keep the islander I have now an outboard. Looking to put a 150 on it. I really do want a big ole swim platform.

Swim platforms really sell themselves don't they? I've put loads of thought into them and decided bigger is definitely better! I have never done this but I bet landing a decent size fish from there would be epic. Hoping to have mine at least 3 feet long/deep with steps and kicker motor mount. I've seen some interesting platforms that work on outboard boats but you lose a lot of the real-estate from the cut out. Has to be the best creature comfort advantage of non-outboards.
