Too bad you could not get a 3/4“or 1” impact with enough air to power it.
I replaced one on a smaller boat at my shop one time and it had me “blessing “ it! And I had compressed air an impact wrench and a torch.
And that is another part of the story
We cranked until we were tired on the starboard side cutlass. Dean said he didn't see anything about not using a impact. So I brought out my Dewalt 20V impact. Man this was much easier
Got it out and had trouble but managed to get the starboard side installed
Now the fun
We tried to loosen and it would not come apart with impact. Double nutted the rod and after a lot of pounding we got them apart. I read the manual and yes it did say "do not use impact because galling will result". Yes galling did happen. So after another 2 hours we got it apart
We got a 7/8-9 tap and die. Did multiple down total length and managed to get it "mostly" free. I say mostly because one of the rods was twisted. Did the port side and all wrench and did better but still there was area of major concern
The tool is good but needs work. My thought is it's all grade 5 and not 8. Should also be fine thread and not coarse.
