And the ECM is getting some kind of signal from the Dizzy because after a few cranks we're smelling fuel. Pulled plugs and they are wet

Installed new module and it fired right up.

Bilge needs to be repainted, cutlass bearing replaced, new drip-less seal, prop is back from shop. Hope in a week or so might have it back in the water.

Picking up Grandson Friday so I'm not going to be doing much with the boat until we take him back Tuesday :D

Replaced the port side cutlass today. Hope I never do one of these again.

Boat is ready to put back in the water, waiting for transporter to say when, wow almost a year.

We had a $400 tool (strut pro) which did the job but dang that is a lot of wrench turning, and it's hard work. I have a 3 ft 3/4 drive ratchet and 35MM socket (didn't have a 1 3/8 SAE). It was good we lifted it high enough to give us room to swing.

Strut pro now makes a hydraulic type for 5K, so if your in the Bizz it would be worth the price.

What I have found is most folks with inboards don't realize how bad their cutlass is and continue until failure. Most know the tolerance is max 0.003 run out. Having a bad cutlass throws that out the window

Too bad you could not get a 3/4“or 1” impact with enough air to power it.
I replaced one on a smaller boat at my shop one time and it had me “blessing “ it! And I had compressed air an impact wrench and a torch.

I replaced one on a smaller boat at my shop one time and it had me “blessing “ it! And I had compressed air an impact wrench and a torch.
And that is another part of the story

We cranked until we were tired on the starboard side cutlass. Dean said he didn't see anything about not using a impact. So I brought out my Dewalt 20V impact. Man this was much easier

Got it out and had trouble but managed to get the starboard side installed

Now the fun

We tried to loosen and it would not come apart with impact. Double nutted the rod and after a lot of pounding we got them apart. I read the manual and yes it did say "do not use impact because galling will result". Yes galling did happen. So after another 2 hours we got it apart

We got a 7/8-9 tap and die. Did multiple down total length and managed to get it "mostly" free. I say mostly because one of the rods was twisted. Did the port side and all wrench and did better but still there was area of major concern

The tool is good but needs work. My thought is it's all grade 5 and not 8. Should also be fine thread and not coarse.
