Back from vacation at the lake and back to work on the Jup. While at the lake it was the first time burying a hook in my thumb, DEEP! I tried to get it out on my own but couldn't. One hour later I tapped out at the Admiral's demands and went to urgent care and 30 minutes later we were back fishing. :D My goal for the Jup was to make the needed repairs and run it, with the set back I didn't make the goal. Maybe a little deeper into the project since I don't have the deadline looming now........hmm. I see a familiar pattern here, reading others threads while at the lake and wanting the Jup with us this seems to be a normal thing that tends to happen. Turtle while its empty would make it easier to do. Not much but its progress

Oh man a hook buried in my flesh is one of the things I try not to accomplish on a fishing trip.

Forward progress for me means always doing something each day, even if it's just planning or buying new parts.

Thanks Watermann, following your SS rebuild now. Nice work. Yes the hook was no fun at all. I couldn't figure out to push it on through or back it out the way it went in. The doc injected lidocaine and clipped off the eye at the curve of the hook pushed it in a little further to get the barb to release and quickly spun it back out the way it went in. It took three tries of that but I didn't feel a thing other than the shot. Today I finished placing the bolts in the ribs to pull it all back in place, drilled four more holes for extra rivets to make it stronger. The rivets that go through the keel and into the rib were not long enough so I tried a blind and it didn't pull the keel as tight as I wanted so I guess it's to the webbernets to order some. I only need 4 šŸ˜” and I'm sure I will have to order 500. Oh well it is what it is. Still grinding away.

I have seen Bill Dance on his fishing show burry hooks in his hand and remove them with mono line. It didn't work for me when I buried a treble hook in the back of my head..
Keep up the good work..

So what are you guys using to "glue" the transom sheets together? I ordered the rivets and they show that they shipped from Anaheim CAšŸ˜³ Now it is saying that wild fires may have delayed shipping so I am moving on to the transom until the rivets show up.

I used Titebond 3 which is waterproof.

Then I seriously "clamped" everything together.

Awesome clamps, I think I will borrow that. Btw when are you starting on the chief? I'm patiently waiting.

The last couple I did, I used 3/4" gold deck screws to hold the pieces together while they were drying and take them out and seal. The screw holes are very small and the process of sealing the transom fills them with seal material.

I was planning to use OTF and helmsman spar over it, will the holes fill in with that method or should I use 5200 in them?

Ya, sorry bout that, sometimes you can find replicas of those on Ebay, or a lot of guys I have seen replace them with stickers that you can get just about any size you want.

Yeah the holes will get sealed but if visible you may want to fill them, also fill any voids on the edges, I've used JB water weld and 5200 in them but it likes to run out if not upright, also takes a week to cure. I also prime and paint my transoms with tractor paint which is a good idea if you can see them to match the color of the boat.
