Mercruiser forum seems the best place for this question.
Asking for my boating pal who owns a '89 Bluewater Coastal Cruiser with twin Crusader 350 hp SBCs with shaft drive. Last summer I helped him with basic ignition shot gun tune up. Coil, upgraded hall effect points replacement, cap, etc to address a performance issue on his port engine.
His old Craftsman inductive timing light wasn't reliable, so he let it set for the winter. He recently threw up his hands and had a marina mechanic try to time it. Guy said this is the counter rotating engine and the #1 plug was the rear starboard plug. ...worse performance in a water test. Guy also said the distributor turns opposite from standard.
Based on flywheel direction, which engine is counter rotating?
What/where is the #1, or correct plug wire for setting timing?
As always, thanks.
