crossflow or looper

I have a 83 115 . it has pistons that are not flat so guess its a crossflow from what Ive read on here. but whats the advantages and disadvantages of both designs?

My quess is:


Crossflows for higher horsepowered engines

Loopers for mid powered engines

I donno.....

Keeping it simple..... the looper engines are more fuel efficent and seem to have more power per hp ie...... a 140 V4 looper will run away from a 140 V4 crossflow engine.

cool ,that expains alot but why do they make crossflow engines if they are not as good .whats the benefit of crossflow?
