Hey folks,
I'm trying to fix a mistake. I used one layer of 1.5 oz. CSM with USC
435 layup resin. I sanded down any high spots. I bought 1700 biaxial instead of 1708. Can I use the 1700 with polyester layup resin, to go back on the 1st layer of CSM? I do I need to get 1708 over all of this?

Thanks!

Hey folks, I took the wrong advice and got 1.5 oz. CSM and put a layer on it did not go down smooth despite my attempts. I sanded down the high spots. I bought 1700 and not 1708. Since I put down CSM, do I need to go buy 1708, or can I use the 1700 with US Comp, 435 layup resin?

Thanks

If you are using poly and the 1700 you should be putting at least 3/4 CSM in between the layers of 1700. The 1708 is the same thing with the 3/4 CSM already stitched on. I believe if you are using epoxy you can just use the 1700 but not 100% sure ( I used poly on my boat).

I already have two 3/4 ounce layers of CSM down. I was putting 1700 on top. I plan to wet the cured CSM with poly and lay down the 1700. Should I use a 4 ounce cloth or a fairing compound to smooth out the weave of the 1700 before I spray gel coat?

Thanks GPSLures
