Just purchased a pontoon, decided to join the forum and get some advice from the real world. Have a 05' Crestliner 2485 Sport LX with a 07' 90 hp 2 stroke Mercury. Having troubles with the tach and charging gauges. Am somewhat mechanical does anyone have any thoughts... are wiring manuals available?

Thanks
Tom

Re: Crestliner Help with Tach - Charging GaugesSport LX

My experience with a group of gauges that don't work is that there is a loose ground wire somewhere. These gauges are all usually grounded through one common wire. Look at that wire at every connection all the way back to the battery before you start any major overhaul of these systems. This happens a LOT when a boat has been sitting for an extended period of time.

I had that same motor in a 1996 Starcraft that would get a loose ground wire and act up about once per year. The gauges would blink and surge and carry on very eratically. I even talked the guy that bought it from me through getting it straightened out once after I sold it.
